TORRINGTON – The Lingle-Fort Laramie (LFL) high school track team left it all on the track, jumping pits and throwing rings at the 1A East regional meet it hosted in Torrington on Friday and Saturday, May 16-17.

The Lady Doggers captured the team regional title, collecting 175 points with three individual champions and two first-place relay teams. Southeast came in second place at 160 points with Upton third at 101.

The LFL boys battled to the No. 1 spot on the team leaderboard, clinching the regional title with 186 points, six gold medals and four relay wins. The Doggers beat Niobrara County, the second-place school, by an overwhelming 59-point margin.

LFL also broke two 1A/2A East regional track meet records. Junior Jordynn Speckner won the girls’ 1600-meters, setting a new meet record with a time of 5 minutes, 38.81 seconds. Adria Grubb of Saratoga held the previous record of 5:39.06 set in 2009.

The girls’ 4x400-meter relay team also struck gold. Senior Grace Gibson, senior Kenzie Wilkins, senior Jada Kaufman and sophomore Addi Wilkins crossed the finish line at 4:15.79, breaking the regional meet record in the process. Southeast held the old record of 4:17.36 set in 2024.

Senior Louden Bremer and Jordynn Speckner were both named the SEWAC track athletes of the year at the regional meet.

“From top to bottom, this was our best team performance of the season,” coach Mike Lashley wrote. “We had some outstanding performances.”

LFL’s depth played a crucial role in the team’s success, with multiple athletes in most events.

“Our kids were determined to sweep the championships and their performances reflected that,” Lashley added. “We stress to athletes that very rarely does everything go perfectly in a multi-day meet. We had some mishaps along the way at regionals, but the kids did a great job putting the adversity behind them and focusing on their upcoming events. I believe that was key to us winning the titles.”

Up next, LFL tracksters board the bus for the 1A state track meet in Casper beginning on Thursday, May 22.

“Now our focus turns to our ultimate goal of winning a couple of state championships,” Lashley said. “There are some very good teams in 1A, so we know we have our work cut out for us. However, without the greatest challenge, you miss the greatest triumph.”
