Some people in Torrington know me as the dog lady. I can tell you that when two male dogs prepare to fight, they’re often just posturing, making themselves look bigger and tougher than the other dog - females generally have better sense.

Some people in Torrington know me as the dog lady

Editor,

Some people in Torrington know me as the dog lady. I can tell you that when two male dogs prepare to fight, they’re often just posturing, making themselves look bigger and tougher than the other dog - females generally have better sense.

I noticed in Friday’s Telegram that the Freedom Caucus in the Wyoming Legislature is posturing again.

They’ve created a bill that will forbid the CDC, Center for Disease Control, and the WHO, World Health Organization, from jurisdiction in Wyoming. Neither organization ever had any. The World Health Organization monitors and reports on health threats worldwide. The CDC does much the same in the United States and makes recommendations - rather like a canary in a coal mine. Only fools ignore the canary.

During the recent pandemic, the CDC did make recommendations. It was an effort to save lives. It has been reported that from mid December 23 and January 24 there were 11,000 Covid deaths worldwide, 5,000 of them in the US. Many of those because people ignored the canary in the name of their freedom.

So the Freedom Caucus wants to protect us from a threat to our freedom that never existed while, at the same time, ignoring real problems in our state. They’re a hammer walking around looking for a nail.

Sincerely,

Judith Maier
