CHEYENNE – The Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) Lancers boarded the bus for a conference game against Laramie County Community College (LCCC) on Thursday, January 16, with the Lancers coming up short by several possessions, 85-77.

The first half found LCCC up by eight points, 40-32. The Lancers battled to close the deficit in a physical second half that saw both teams net 45 points, but LCCC managed to remain ahead by four possessions when the final buzzer sounded.

“The Lancers continue to play well and are fighting to put all of the pieces together,” coach Bill Engel said. “Defensively, we just didn’t do enough to hold LCCC’s shooting in check. We continue to show flashes of excellence and are excited to see the growth of the program. There are no secrets, just showing up every day, rolling up our sleeves and going to work.”

Freshman Alain Nziza set the momentum for the EWC offense against LCCC with 18 points. Sophomore Khayree Rashed and freshman Jaironn Speights each tallied 13 points. Freshmen Eli Igiranez, Jouk Mayan and Vukasin Spasojevic and sophomore Bilal Cisse each contributed six points. Freshman Javier Gonzalez totaled five points while fellow freshman LaThario Miller added two.

On the boards, Rashed led with seven rebounds while Mayan pulled down six. Speights shared the ball for four assists while Igiranez, Nziza and Gonzalez each grabbed two steals. Rashed, Mayan and Nziza each made one block.
