Lady Doggers remain undefeated in 1A

LINGLE – The Lingle-Fort Laramie (LFL) Lady Doggers clinched the team’s sixth conference win and 11th season victory following a thrashing by LFL against Guernsey, 58-12, at home on January 24.

Hitting the ground running in the opening eight minutes of regulation, the Lady Doggers dominated both offensively and defensively to pull ahead of Guernsey, 27-3, at the end of the first quarter.

The halftime score found the Lady Doggers ahead by more than four times the points of its opponent, 33-7. A whirlwind second half saw LFL outpace Guernsey, 25-5, to seal the win and maintain an undefeated 6-0 conference record for the Lady Doggers.

“The LFL girls played well against Guernsey,” coach Susan Bartel said. “Our varsity was up by 10 in the first few minutes of the game. We pulled back and were able to play a plethora of players throughout the game to try varous combinations. I am happy with the performance of all our players.”

Dominating the court

The Lady Doggers overwhelmed Guernsey in the first quarter with a tenacious LFL offense netting 27 points while a coordinated Lady Dogger defense held Guernsey to three.

Junior Jordynn Speckner set the pace offensively in the opening eight minutes of regulation with eight points. The combination of junior Skya Wunder grabbing steals and Jordynn Speckner scoring on a fastbreak repeated itself three times in the first quarter.

Senior Brenly Shipp collected six points in the opening quarter, sophomore Charlotte Speckner five, junior Avary Rising four and Skyla Wunder and sophomore Afton Schilreff two apiece.

On defense, LFL hammered away at Guernsey with multiple steals by Skyla Wunder, Jordynn Speckner, Shipp, Charlotte Speckner and freshman Shaylyn Wunder.

The Lady Doggers took advantage of their overwhelming lead to sub in different rotations of reserve players in the second quarter while still outscoring Guernsey, 6-4. Sophomore Madison Hatch entered the game and drained a close-range shot.

LFL led at halftime, 33-7.

Returning to the court in the second half with vigor, the Lady Doggers outscored the Lady Vikings, 17-3, in the third quarter. Skyla Wunder led offensively with eight points.

A jumper by Charlotte Speckner widened LFL’s lead to 30 points, 37-7. Schilreff found an opening to score inside the perimeter late in the third quarter and the Lady Doggers found themselves up by 40 points, 47-7, prompting the running clock. Hatch topped off the third quarter by converting an and-1.

Defensively, Skyla Wunder, Shipp, Jordynn Speckner, Charlotte Speckner and Rising each snatched a steal in the third.

LFL’s reserve players finished off the job in the fourth quarter, including a four-point run by freshman Madison Bugher.

Skyla Wunder led the Doggers in scoring against Guernsey with 14 pints. Jordynn Speckner contributed 12 points, Charlotte Speckner nine, Shipp six and Hatch five. Rising, Schilreff and and Bugher each tallied four points.

On the boards, Charlotte Speckner and senior Alisha McGraw each pulled down five rebounds while Shipp totaled five and Rising three.

Wunder shared the ball for nine assists and scooped up seven steals through the course of the game.
