Lady Doggers 2-1 at Morrill tourney

MORRILL – The Lingle-Fort Laramie (LFL) Lady Doggers boarded the bus to compete in a whirlwind one-day volleyball tournament hosted by Morrill on Saturday, October 4.

The event opened bright and early with a match between LFL and Crawford, Nebraska. Crawford opened the first set with an 12-4 run. While the Lady Doggers regrouped and narrowed Crawford’s lead to three, Crawford took the first set, 25-19.

LFL battled back to win the second set by three, 25-22.

The match went into a third tiebreaker set with the lead bouncing across the court multiple times. Crawford ultimately won by only two, 25-23, to post a 2-1 victory.

The Lady Doggers went on to sweep both Banner County, 25-15 and 25-14, and Minatare, 25-18 and 25-18.

Stats and a livestream from the Banner County and Minatare games were not available at press time.

Crawford match

Crawford came out early in the first set to outscore LFL, 12-4.

The Lady Doggers found their footing midway into the set and put a dent in Crawford’s lead with kills by sophomore Shaylyn Wunder, senior Skyla Wunder, junior Addison Wilkins, senior Jordynn Speckner and an ace from Skyla Wunder.

Jordynn Speckner served up a trio of points and LFL came withing three of overtaking Crawford, 22-19.

Crawford regained the initiative and went on to score game point, 25-19.

The Lady Doggers stepped up the intensity in the second set.

Shaylyn Wunder reached up for a block and the set tied at three. A kill by Wilkins placed LFL up, 5-3. Shaylyn Wunder followed with a kill and the Lady Doggers led, 9-5.

Crawford pulled up to match the Lady Doggers in scoring at nine before regaining the lead, 12-10.

Jordynn Speckner slammed a kill and aced a serve, resulting in a 15-15 deadlock.

The set tied again at 16 when Crawford served the ball out of bounds.

Senior Anna Frederick served up an ace while junior Charlotte Speckner spiked a pair of kills to return the advantage to the Lady Doggers, 20-18. An ace by Charlotte Speckner widened LFL’s lead to four, 22-18.

Crawford responded with four points and the set tied once more at 22.

A block by Shaylyn Wunder took the Lady Doggers to 24. Wilkins powered over a kill for game point, 25-22.

LFL commenced the third set with a 4-2 run, including two aces and a kill by Frederick.

The Lady Doggers remained ahead with kills from Charlotte Speckner, Skyla Wunder and Shaylyn Wunder.

Crawford answered with a 6-0 run and the set reached a stalemate at 10.

Skyla Wunder set up a point and LFL led once again, 11-10.

Crawford then scored two points to retake the lead, 12-11.

Sophomore Hayden Willey slammed a kill for the Lady Doggers to match Crawford in scoring at 12.

Crawford pulled ahead at 13 and maintained its lead despite kills from Charlotte Speckner and Shaylyn Wunder.

An ace by Skyla Wunder tied the set at 21.

The set deadlocked a final time at 23 when Crawford hit the ball out before Crawford regained possession and scored two points to win, 25-23.

The Lady Doggers host Hanna-Elk Mountain and Rock River on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
