CHEYENNE – The 2024 Wyoming high school cross-country season culminated with the state championships at Little America in Cheyenne on Saturday, October 26. Twelve athletes represented Goshen County on the Torrington High School varsity squads, battling tough 3A competition from across the state on a fast 5K course.
Junior Kaycee Kosmicki led the Goshen County pack in the girls’ varsity race, crossing the finish line in 12th place with a time of 21 minutes, 0.30 seconds.
Junior Sullivan Wilson took 23rd place in the boys’ varsity 5K, clocking in with a time of 18:22.70.
Coach Kelsey Grant expressed pride in the team’s efforts at state.
“From the first practice to that final race, our athletes demonstrated remarkable commitment and resilience this cross-country season, especially at state,” Grant added. “Competing in 3A is incredibly challenging and the state meet showcased just how competitive the competition is.
“I was particularly proud of those who set personal bests at state, proving all their hard work paid off. However, I also acknowledge that some left feeling disappointed. That mix of emotions is part of the journey in sports. Each experience, whether triumph or setback, offers valuable lessons that we can learn from as a team and as an individual.”
Grant also praised the team’s camaraderie and the support each athlete demonstrated to others throughout the season.
“It was inspiring to see how the team rallied around each other, especially at the state meet,” Grant said. “This season has laid a strong foundation for our future and I’m excited to see how our runners continue to grow and develop. I’m grateful for the heart and dedication each athlete brought to the team and I can’t wait to see what next season holds for us.”
