Harriers brave the wind

CHEYENNE – As fall weather settles into the region, strong winds buffeted eastern Wyoming over the weekend, posing an additional challenge for harriers at the Leroy Sprague Invite in Cheyenne Friday, October 10.

The Torrington High School cross-country team refused to let the less-than-favorable conditions get in the way of posting new PRs on the 5-kilometer course at Prairie View Golf Course.

“Despite the chilly temperatures and strong winds in Cheyenne, our runners performed exceptionally well with several setting new personal bests for the season,” coach Kelsey Grant said. “It’s clear that our athletes are peaking at just the right time. With the final stretch of the season ahead, we are more focused and ready than ever for the challenges of conference and state.”

The Torrington cross-country team begins the postseason with the eastern regional meet hosted by Newcastle on Thursday, October 16. Races are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at the Newcastle Country Club.

Sophomore Cole Tregemba represented the Blazers in the varsity boys’ 5K in Cheyenne on Friday. Tregemba finished 24th with a final time of 18 minutes, 34.70 seconds.

Freshman Jack Sedman led the Torrington pack in the junior varsity boys’ race, taking 25th place and clocking in at 20:35.90.

In the girls’ junior varsity 5K, freshman Zoey Graham came in 25th place, reaching the finish line in 25:16.50.
