SCOTTSBLUFF – The Torrington High School cross-country team hit the course against tough opponents and conditions at the Scottsbluff Distance Festival on Friday, October 3.

Once again, the Lady Blazers and Blazers rose to the challenge on the 5-kilometer course at the Scottsbluff Country Club.

“This week in Scottsbluff, the conditions were definitely a challenge for our athletes with the hot weather,” coach Kelsey Grant said. “We had to adjust our strategy and focus on keeping everyone hydrated and mentally prepared for the heat. Despite the tough conditions, I was  proud of how the team handled it.”

Torrington fielded its full roster at the Scottsbluff invitational.

“This was the first week we had a full team,” Grant added. “They showed resilience and determination throughout the race. With just three weeks left until state, this meet was a great opportunity for athletes to push through adversity and gain some valuable experience. It’s all about fine-tuning our performance now. We’ll be focusing on pacing, recovery and making sure everyone is in peak physical shape heading into the final stretch of the season.”

Sophomore Cole Tregemba earned a ribbon at the meet with a 10th-place finish in the varsity boys’ 5K. Tregemba reached the finish line with a time of 18 minutes, 23.25 seconds.

Freshman Zoey Graham broke into the top 10 in the girls’ junior varsity division, taking fifth place with a time of 24:57.93.
