Two EWC golfers garnered NJCAA Division I all-American honors while four received West all-district accolades for a successful 2024-2025 season.

TORRINGTON – Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) continues to make waves in collegiate golf as several student-athletes on the Lancer golf team earned national recognition on the 2025 NJCAA Division I PING all-American and all-district selections.
The all-American and all-district lists were announced on Monday, May 12 by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
EWC standout Tytan Birchell was named to the prestigious first team, all-American while fellow Lancer Taiki Sugawara earned second team, all-American honors. Birchell and Sugawara also landed on the West all-district team, along with teammates Braylon Bingham, Joshua Chapman and Coltin Powell, highlighting the Lancers’ depth and regional dominance.
“Having five guys recognized at this level is a huge testament to the work our team puts in every day,” head coach Zach Smith said. “Tytan and Taiki have been incredible leaders for our squad and seeing them honored nationally is something our whole program can be proud of. I’m equally proud of Braylon, Josh and Coltin for their strong seasons and contributions on and off the course.”
Birchell will continue his athletic and academic career at Ottawa University Arizona. Birchell captured the regional individual title at the district tournament in Loveland, Colorado, on April 25. He also won the individual title at the McCook Community College tournament on March 28. A Utah native, Birchell is from Roosevelt in the nortwestern portion of the state.
Sugawara committed to play golf at Division I North Carolina A&T this fall. Sugawara took fourth place on the individual leaderboard at the district tournament on April 25 and won EWC’s home invitational on April 11. Sugawara grew up in Aizuwakamatsu, Japan.
Hailing from Redruth, United Kingdom, Chapman signed to play golf at Hasting College. He placed 10th at the district tournament on April 25.
Bingham grew up in Cedar City, Utah, and will continue his golf and academic career at Southern Utah University. Bingham took third place at regionals in Colorado on April 25.
Powell is from Ogden, Utah, and finished eighth on the individual leaderboard at the district tournament on April 25.
The all-America teams represent the top individual performers from across NJCAA Division I programs, while the all-district selections highlight the best from each of the nation’s four regions.
With a strong showing throughout the 2024-2025 season and multiple postseason honors, the Eastern Wyoming College golf program continues to solidify its reputation as one of the top-tier programs in junior college athletics.
