STERLING, COLORADO – The Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) golf teams once again swept the competition at a tournament hosted by Northeastern Junior College to maintain an undefeated record for the fall portion of the 2025-2026 season.
EWC squared off against teams from across the region at the Sky Ranch Golf Course in Sterling, Colorado, on Thursday and Friday, October 2-3.
The Lancer men cruised to the No. 1 spot on the team leaderboard, shooting 571 strokes over two days (one under par). An exceptional performance of 278 strokes (-10) by the Lancers on the second day of the tournament not only highlighted a considerable improvement from a first-day gross of 293 but also clinched the win for EWC by 11 strokes.
Central Wyoming College came in second at 582 strokes, followed by the host school (587 strokes), Lamar Community College (602) and North Platte Community College (625).
“The men’s team had their best outing of the year, shooting 10 under par the second day to finish the overall tournament at one under par,” coach Zach Smith said. “Ben Brown, Jamie Lambert and Troy Young came out hot on Friday to help us open up a tight team battle. It was fun to see the momentum and buzz that we had going on the guys’ side. I know we have guys to get it going and we haven’t been able to totally get it going yet, so that was huge for the team.”
The Lady Lancers pulled into first place on the women’s team leaderboard by a 43-stroke margin with a two-day gross of 652 (+80). EWC collected 323 strokes on Thursday and 329 on Friday.
The Lady Lancers soundly defeated the second-place team, Central Wyoming College (695 strokes) and the third-place finisher, North Platte Community College (799).
“The girls have continued to play strong as well,” coach Smith wrote. “Sara Maciej is a machine and just stays steady along the way and keeps such a great attitude, no matter what’s happening on the course. To have Ashlyn Matheson, Madison Fujimoto and Sara all shoot 70s on Thursday was another great sign for our golf team.”
EWC returns to Colorado for a tournament hosted by Lamar Community College this weekend followed by the NJCAA national preview coming up at the end of the month.
“I really appreciate the hard work everyone has put in so far this season,” Smith added. “I’m excited for both teams moving forward.”
