POWELL – The Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) Lady Lancers returned home from their second week of conference games against Central Wyoming College and Northwest College with another 1-1 record.
A clean sweep by the Lady Lancers against Powell highlighted the weekend on Saturday, October 4. On Friday, EWC fell to Central Wyoming in three close sets.
Central Wyoming
The Lady Lancers battled the Lady Rustlers to a 24-24 tie in a neck-and-neck first set. Central Wyoming ultimately pulled up by two to win, 26-24.
The Lady Rustlers won the second set by four, 25-21, before taking the third set by five, 25-20.
Offensively, sophomores Una Stepic and Amarie Huntsman led the Lady Lancers against Central Wyoming with double-digit kills. Stepic collected 12 kills and Huntsman 10.
Freshman Alana Asante rounded the kills tally out with eight while sophomore Annika Cantrell tallied five and sophomore Adisyn Rollins and freshman Tessa Kilchenmann each two.
Sophomore Clara Häyhänen played setter for EWC and passed the ball for 18 assists.
On the service line, Stepic and Huntsman both collected two aces with one apiece by sophomore Vladana Ristic and Asante.
Riscic defended the backcourt as libero with 20 digs.
Asante reached up for three blocks, Cantrell two and Kilchenmann, Huntsman and sophomore Savannah Kirkbride one.
Northwest College
The Lady Lancers hit the ground running in the first set to defeat Northwest College, 25-18.
EWC went on to win the second set by seven as well, 25-18.
While the third set proved close, the Lady Lancers came together to score four decisive points for the win, 25-21.
Stepic and Huntsman tallied double-digit kills once more at 15 and 10, respectively. Cantrell collected six kills, Kilchenmann five, Asante four, Rollins two and Häyhänen and freshman Jaylie Critchfield one each.
Häyhänen served as setter against Northwest College and delivered 17 assists.
Asante aced six serves while Ristic contributed three aces, Huntsman two and Häyhänen and freshman Lola Hughes one.
Ristic stepped up as libero, tallying 19 digs.
Asante led the Lady Lancers defensively in blocks with seven. Cantrell recorded three blocks, with Huntsman two and one apiece by freshman Allison Botters and Stepic.
