TORRINGTON – The family of Frieda Louise Christensen Cole, who passed away in February, recently provided a generous financial donation to the Goshen County 4-H Foundation. The 4-H Foundation pleased to announce the creation of a new college scholarship for eligible 4-H members of Goshen County. The scholarship will be available to 2024 graduating seniors.

Louise grew up in Torrington on the family homestead north of Torrington. An active member in 4-H, she earned many awards and opportunities to travel through her 4-H involvement, including to the International Livestock Exposition in Chicago.

She was an active 4-H volunteer for her children’s 4-H involvement and grandchildren. According to her children, Kate and Frank, “4-H made truly had a huge impact in her life which she used in her career as a teacher, leader and community member.”

Her children went on to say, “Mom was proud to say she was from Torrington and proud to still have roots in the community.” Through the family’s generous gift to the Goshen County 4-H Foundation, her legacy will be extended to help future 4-H members attend college.

Originally established in 1972, the Goshen County 4-H Foundation was established to provide financial support to the members of Goshen County 4-H. Financial gifts made to the Goshen County 4-H Foundation are tax-deductible and used to support Goshen County 4-H activities, including scholarships like the Louise Christensen Cole Memorial Scholarship.

Each year, Goshen County 4-H Foundation awards approximately $2,500 in scholarships to local 4-H members. The 4-H Foundation Scholarships include the Jesica Hovis Memorial Scholarship, Goshen County 4-H Educational Fund Donated by Mildred Kidney, Junior Leader Scholarship, and now, the Louise Christensen Cole Memorial Scholarship.

Goshen County 4-H Foundation Board of Trustees is led by 4-H supporters Billie Allen, Russ Michael, Terry Nighswonger, Kaye Orton and Wayne Tatman.  The Board of Trustees, and Goshen County 4-H members, are grateful to the family of Louise Cole Christensen and all of the generous donors who support the Goshen County 4-H Foundation.
