Lady Blazers shutout in conference doubleheader

TORRINGTON – The Torrington High School girls’ soccer team hosted two of the top teams in the 3A East Conference over the weekend, and the end result was a combined 14-0 loss to the Buffalo Lady Bison and the Riverton Lady Wolverines.

On Friday, the fifth-ranked Lady Bison came to town looking to put Torrington away quickly.

Buffalo scored two goals in the first nine minutes of the match, when the first one came only four minutes into the match as they handed the Lady Blazers an 8-0 loss.

Torrington settled down and managed to hold the visitors out of the goal for the reminder of the first half, but only 53 seconds into the second half, the Lady Bison found the back of the net again.

It was the first of six goals by Buffalo in the second half.

Buffalo added scores in the 43rd, 52nd, 61st, 66th and 75th minutes to complete the shutout.

Torrington finally got its first shot attempt off in the 48th minute of the game.

On Saturday, No. 3-ranked Riverton handed another shutout to the Lady Blazers.

The Lady Wolverines managed to get two shot attempts off in the first two minutes of the match, but it wasn’t until the sixth minute when Riverton netted its first goal of the match. The visitors added another 20 minutes later.

The score remained 2-0 until the 56th minute. Riverton added goals in the 61st, 70th and 77th minutes handing Torrington a 6-0 loss.

Torrington (1-6 overall and 0-3 in the 3A East) hosts Rawlins (1-6 and 0-3) at 3 p.m. Thursday.

It will mark the second meeting between the two teams as Rawlins won the first match 2-1 at the Pinnacle Cup Tournament in Pinedale to begin the season.
