GILLETTE – The Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) Lady Lancers volleyball team captured two more conference wins against both Laramie County Community College (LCCC) and Gillette College the previous week to remain undefeated in the NJCAA Region IX North division.
With the back-to-back victories, the Lady Lancers remain at the top of the standings with an 8-0 conference record and 20-6 overall record.
The action opened with EWC defeating LCCC at an away match in four sets, 3-1, on Tuesday, October 15. On Saturday, October 19, the Lady Lancers swept Gillette College on the road.
The NJCAA named EWC sophomore Boden Liljedahl its Region IX North defensive player of the week on October 15, while sophomore Belle Dolan earned the offensive player of the week award for the region.
LCCC
EWC opened Tuesday’s match against LCCC with a win in the first set, 25-19. LCCC responded to win the second set by two points, 25-23.
The Lady Lancers rebounded to defeat LCCC the third and fourth sets, 25-16 and 25-21, respectively.
Three EWC players tallied double-digit kills against LCCC, led by freshman Una Stepic with 15. Dolan and freshman Amarie Huntsman both recorded 12 kills. Sophomore Siala Unufe contributed seven kills with four apiece by freshmen Mina Milivojevic and Annika Cantrell.
Sophomore Emma Blackstar played setter for EWC and totaled 23 assists. Liljedahl covered the floor as libero with 20 digs.
On the service line, both Blackstar and Unufe aced three serves.
Defensively, Stepic and Unufe each recorded five blocks.
Gillette College
EWC defeated Gillette College in three sets, 25-13, 25-19 and 25-19.
Seven Lady Lancers contributed to EWC’s kill tally against Gillette College. Dolan set the pace for EWC with six kills. Stepic tallied five kills, Cantrell and Unufe four each, Milivojevic and Huntsman three apiece and sophomore Baylor Rodgers one.
Rodgers and freshman Vladana Ristic both aced two serves with one ace by Stepic and Unufe.
Blackstar delivered 11 assists and Liljedahl recorded 18 digs.
EWC excelled on defense against Gillette College, totaling 31 blocks. Unufe led with seven blocks. Cantrell and Huntsman both totaled six, Dolan five, freshman Adisyn Rollins four and Milivojevic three.
The Lady Lancers hosted Western Nebraska Community College on Tuesday, October 22. Results were not available at press time.
