TORRINGTON – The fourth-grade students at Trail Elementary School took to the stage this past week to showcase their musical talents in a recorder concert performed for family and friends. The event, led by Trail music teacher Dr. Hilary Unverzagt, highlighted the students’ hard work and dedication throughout the school year.

The concert opened with all the fourth-grade students coming together to play classic songs such as Hot Cross Buns, Gently Sleep, and Merrily We Roll Along. Each classroom then had the opportunity to perform a special piece of their own. Mrs. Walter’s class delivered a lively performance of Señor Squirrel, while Mrs. Hunter’s class entertained the audience with Go Tell Aunt Rhody. Mrs. Fullmer’s class performed the charming piece Kuma San, and Mrs. Brummell’s class delighted the crowd with their rendition of Lucy Locket’s Pet Snail Sparky.

The concert not only showcased the students’ growing musical abilities but also served as a reminder of the importance of music education in schools. The recorder provides students with an opportunity to try playing a musical instrument, both individually and in a group, setting a foundation for future musical exploration. The concert last week allowed students to demonstrate for their family and friends what they are learning in school and provided an opportunity to create music with their classmates.
