NEWCASTLE – The Torrington High School boys’ basketball returned to the court Friday evening on the road, falling 44-35 to the Newcastle Dogies.
Despite only allowing two points in the first quarter, the Blazers were outscored 42-29 over the final three quarters en route to the nine-point loss.
Torrington led 6-2 after the first quarter, but Newcastle battled back to take a 17-16 lead heading into halftime.
In the second half, Newcastle’s lead slowly grew. The Dogies outscored the Blazers 12-9 in the third and 15-10 over the final eight minutes.
Torrington shot 25% (13-of-51) from the floor.
The Blazers were led in scoring by junior Kieser Wolfe with 14. Junior Deagan Keith added six, while sophomore Ryan Baker had five. Senior Aiden Hull grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds to go along with four points.
The loss drops Torrington to 2-3 on the season.
The Blazers return to the hardwood on Thursday on the road to face the Mitchell (Neb.) Tigers (7-6). Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
