TORRINGTON – The Torrington Tigers 15-and-under baseball team suffered two losses against Gillette at home Wednesday, dropping the first 14-9 and the second 18-7.
The Tigers put five runs up in the first inning, with Nick Sherbeyn, Cameron Murphy, Sam Firminhac, Gabe Mitchell and Daniel Wayland all crossing the plate. In the second inning, Murphy and Firminhac scored again, putting the Tigers up 7-0. Over the next five innings, Torrington plated only one run, while allowing 14.
“We were up 7-0 in the first game in and blew a seven-run lead. There was no pitching again,” coach Andy Brown said. “Our starting pitching was great, but our relief pitchers weren’t so much. We need to work on that.”
