CASPER – . The Torrington High School cheerleading team returned from the 2025 Wyoming State Cheer and Dance Spirit Competition with an eighth-place finish in the 3A gameday division.
Torrington advanced to eighth on the team leaderboard with a cumulative score of 81.35 points to beat Buffalo, Lyman and Wheatland.
The state spirit competition took place at the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper on Friday, January 24, and marked the first time Torrington has competed at the season-culminating event in nine years.
Judges scored teams on three categories in the gameday category. Torrington earned 31.05 points for leading the crowd, 27.1 points for band chant and 25.2 points for fight song.
Torrington attacked the state competition at the huge events venue with courage, coach Kelsey Grant said.
“Every single one of the girls was competing at the state competition for the very first time, stepping into the unknown with both nerves and determination,” Grant added. “For most of them, this was their first time performing in front of such a large crowd or experiencing the intensity of a cheerleading competition. Yet they faced it all head on.”
Torrington hopes to build on the experience and plans to return to state next year.
“While many teams had been training as a competition squad since August, we had only been practicing for two months with breaks in between,” Grant said. “The hard work, growth and grit the team showed were truly inspiring. We didn’t come out on top this year, but we are more motivated than ever to come back stronger and more determined next year.”
