TORRINGTON – The Eastern Wyoming College rodeo team received word on Friday, March 20 from the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association that the organization has canceled the remainder of the season.
The decision was handed down from the NIRA Board of Directors to put a halt to the remainder of the season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It is heartbreaking for all of our athletes, coaches, and fans, but the health and safety of everyone is the most important at this time,” a release from the NIRA said.
As of now, the 2020 College National Finals Rodeo is still planned for June 14-20 in Casper, however a final decision will be made by May 14, with the advisement of the CDC and the State of Wyoming and their Public Health Departments.
Before this announcement, the EWC rodeo program saw their first two events of the season called off, including the annual Lancer Rodeo on March 27-29.
