Lancers fall to Casper, WWCC

ENCAMPMENT – The Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) Lancers dropped a pair of home conference games against Casper College and Western Wyoming Community College (WWCC) over the weekend.

On Friday, January 31, the Lancers trailed Casper College in both halves to fall, 77-62.

Saturday’s action pitted EWC against WWCC. EWC battled back in the second half to close an early 20-point-plus lead by WWCC to only a few possessions before ultimately coming up short to the Mustangs, 83-72.

The first half between the Lancers and the Thunderbirds ended with Casper College ahead by a 10-point margin, 40-30.

The second half proved closer with EWC netting 32 points to 37 from Casper College.

Three Lancers tossed in double digit scoring against Casper College, led by freshman Jaironn Speights with 13, sophomore Khayree Rashed 12 and freshman Alain Nziza 11.

Seven EWC players also contributed to the scoreboard. Freshman Jumerion Weh collected eight points, freshman Vukasin Spasojevic seven with four apiece by freshmen Jouk Mayan and Russell Moorer. Freshmen LaThario Miller, Javier Gonzalez and Nathan Mirich each contributed a bucket.

Spasojevic led on the boards with eight rebounds. Rashed snatched three steals while Spasojevic, Mayan, Gonzalez and sophomore Bilal Cisse each reached up for one block.

WWCC

WWCC opened regulation with a 35-11 run in the first 10 minutes of regulation. The Lancers found their footing midway into the first half to reduce WWCC’s lead from 24 points to 14, 48-34, at halftime.

EWC continued its effort to match WWCC in scoring in a second half that saw the Lancers top WWCC in scoring, 38-35. Late in the second half, EWC narrowed WWCC’s lead to seven points, 75-68, when Speights drained a trey at 4:13.

Nziza paced EWC in scoring against WWCC with 17 points. Speights recorded 16 points while Miller netted 12. 

Cisse collected nine points, Morrer and Weh five apiece, Mayan and Mirich both three and Rashed two.

On the boards, Cisse came close to a double-double with 10 rebounds. Speights delivered four assists and Moorer grabbed three steals.
