ENCAMPMENT – A strong defense by the Southeast High School Lady Cyclones resulted in a 29-22 win by Southeast in a physical matchup against 1A Southwest rival Encampment on the road on Saturday, February 1.

On Thursday, a point-for-point battle between the Lady Cyclones and the Lingle-Fort Laramie (LFL) Lady Doggers found Southeast trailing LFL by two possessions, 37-32, at the final buzzer.

Southeast’s win against Encampment improved the team’s overall record to 11-6. The Lady Cyclones currently sit in the No. 2 spot in the 1A Southeast Conference with a 3-2 record.

“We saw some good things vs LFL (on Thursday) for a couple of minutes here and there of really good basketball,” coach Jennifer Scheer said. “Our defense wasn’t where it needed to be, though. Kudos to LFL – they are tough and scrappy. We didn’t capitalize when we needed to on certain things.”

The Lady Cyclones made adjustments on Friday in preparation for Encampment.

“In Encampment, I thought our defense was better – we were more aggressive and physically,” Scheer added. “I was happy see that improvement. We were also more deliberate on offense, seeing floor better and moving ball around better. It was a better game on Saturday.”
