GILLETTE – The Torrington High School indoor track team returned from the Campbell County Invitational on January 25 with multiple top 10 finishes and solid times and marks in individual events and relays.
The event featured 18 teams from across Wyoming, with more than 100 contestants in several individual events.

In girls sprinting events, junior Brooklyn Asmus advanced to the finals for the 55-meter dash to cross the finish line in fourth place and post a time of 7.48 seconds.
Asmus, senior Jada Kaufman, sophomore Bailey Mehling and Pontarolo snagged fifth place in the 4x200-meter relay, timing in at 1 minute, 54.35 seconds.
Representing Torrington in the girls long-distance 3200-meters, senior Callie Taylor placed sixth in the event with a time of 13:49.91.
Mehling secured ninth place in the triple jump, clearing 30-11 ½.
Rounding out girls’ top 10 performances, freshman Illyana Sanchez pulled into ninth place in the 400-meters, clocking in at 1:07.63.
Junior Landon Fuller led the boys division, capturing eighth place in the 400-meters with a sub-1-minute time of 56.24 seconds.
“We ran a couple relay teams with girls this week,” coach Russell Stienmetz said. “I’m glad we had athletes willing to step up and go in and do something out of comfort zone to help team. We don’t hit PRs every meet but as long as we are improving in part of event, that’s what we’re looking for.”
