Harriers face tough Colorado competition

ESTES PARK, COLORADO  The Torrington High School cross-country team rose to the challenge at the Longs Peak Invitational in Estes Park on Friday, September 27, with athletes posting solid marks against significantly larger teams from across Colorado’s Front Range.

The competition featured 39 schools, mostly from the Denver, Fort Collins and Greeley areas. The 5K races took place at the Lake Estes golf course at roughly 7,500 feet in elevation.

Junior Kaycee Kosmicki led the varsity girls’ pack from Goshen County, placing 20th out of 270 runners who completed the course. Kosmicki posted a time of 21 minutes, 38 seconds.

Senior Cali Taylor came in 59th place in girls’ varsity, timing in at 23:40.

Freshman Cole Tregemba set the pace in boys’ varsity, crossing the finish line in 86th place out of 347 participants with a time of 19:22.

“This weekend in Estes Park was incredible,” coach Kelsey Grant said. “The scenery was beautiful. We faced tough Colorado competition with more teams than we’ll see at state (in Wyoming), which really pushed our runners. The elevation added an extra challenge, but I’m proud of how each athlete rose to the occasion.”

Additional times in the boys’ varsity 5K included 22:15 for senior Barrett Eichenberger, 25:38 for freshman Ty Haeffelin and 29:22 for Brody Harrison.

In girls’ varsity, freshman Camilla Harrison posted a time of 42:53.
