RAWLINS – The Torrington High School cross-country team fought deteriorating weather conditions and tough competition at the 3A East conference championships in Rawlins on Thursday, October 17.
Goshen County harriers stepped up to the plate regardless of the obstacles, with four athletes breaking into the top 20. Southeast junior Kaycee Kosmicki and Lingle-Fort Laramie junior Sullivan Wilson both snagged 3A all-conference accolades for top 10 finishes.
“This past weekend, our team faced the elements head on at the regional cross-country meet, battling fierce winds of up to 40 miles per hour and rain,” coach Kelsey Grant said. “Despite these challenges, we still had several athletes record season personal bests and had two earn all-conference status.”
Up next for the cross-county team are the state championships at Little America in Cheyenne on Saturday, October 26.
“In the last week of practice, we will ensure our legs are fresh and ready for state,” Grant added. “I believe we’re peaking at just the right time.”
In boys’ varsity, Wilson set the pace for Goshen County with a second-place finish and all-conference recognition. Wilson crossed the finish line with a time of 17 minutes, 49.19 seconds.
Kosmicki led the girls’ varsity pack, capturing third place and all-conference honors, reaching the finish line in 21:57.84.
Torrington senior Callie Taylor pulled into 13th place in girls’ varsity, clocking in at 23:15.42.
Southeast freshman Cole Tregemba rounded out top 20 finishes, placing 14th in varsity boys at 19:31.52.
