FORT WORTH, Texas – Eastern Wyoming College’s welding instructor, Dean Gorsuch, reached the semi-finals of The American, but missed the cut for a spot in the finals that were run on Sunday.
On Friday, the top-10 steer wrestlers participated in a performance, with the top-five cementing their spot for the finals. Gorsuch posted a time of 13.92, putting him in the 10th spot, which resulted in him missing the cut.
Gorsuch had a week full of steer wrestling to even make it to the semi-finals. He competed on Wednesday with 10 of the top-20 and finished second, clocking a 4.9. The second half of the top-20 ran on Thursday and the top-10 were pulled from both days. Gorsuch’s time on Wednesday earned him the seventh-seed heading into the semi-finals.
Gorsuch, who finished second at The American in 2014, emerged from the slack rounds last Monday. In those preliminary rounds, 160 steer wrestlers were vying for a spot in the top-20 that ran Wednesday. Gorsuch’s week got off to a strong start, finishing 15th in the first run with a time of 4.84. He clocked a combined 10.27 seconds after two rounds, earning him an 11th-place finish out of the 160 competitors from Monday.
