LOVELAND, COLORADO – The Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) rodeo team traveled to Loveland, Colorado, for the Skyline Stampede hosted by Colorado State University from April 4-6.
During the weekend, four Lancer athletes made it back to the short-go on Sunday.
The Lancer women’s team placed fifth overall with 75 team points.
Kennedy McLellan, a sophomore from Oglala, South Dakota, had a great weekend in barrel racing. McLellan had a 15.44-second run in the long-go to place third. In the short-go, the sophomore posted another 15.44-second run to place third in the average.
In breakaway roping, sophomore Jace Hurlburt from Arcadia, Nebraska, had a good weekend. In the long-go, Hurlburt had a quick run of 2.8 seconds to place seventh. On Sunday, Hurlburt kept it consistent with a 2.7-second run to clinch third place in the average for the weekend.
It was a great weekend for EWC on the rough end with a Lancer qualifying for the short-go in saddle bronc riding. Clay Nyhus, a freshman from Saskatchewan, scored a 75-point ride in the long round to split the win. Nyhus ended up 10th in the average for the weekend.
In bareback riding, Cian Daly, a freshman from Killaly, Saskatchewan, scored a 64-point ride on Friday to place eighth in the long-go.
Up next, the Lancers compete at the Casper College rode from April 11-13. Two rodeos remain for the Lancers this spring and EWC is looking to finish out strong at the next two rodeos.
