TORRINGTON – A celebration of life for Edward “Ed” Gerald Schmick, 87, will be held 10 a.m. Saturday April 27, 2024, at the First Congregational Church with Reverend Matt Gordon officiating. Ed passed away peacefully Monday April 22, 2024 at Torrington Community Hospital with his family by his side and cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers the family requested that donations be made to the First Congregational Church. Ed was born in the family home in Goshen County on December 1, 1936, to Henry and Rosie (Frank) Schmick. He graduated from Torrington High School in 1955. He was a member of the National Guard and engaged in the family farm operation.

He married Bonnie Lacy in 1959 and they raised six children together. They farmed and fed cattle. In his spare time, Ed enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and the many friends he made along the way.

Ed is survived by his wife, Bonnie; four of his children: Alan (Betsy) of Torrington; Sherrie Van Vleet (Steve) of Washington; Wendy Yule (Dan) of Wisconsin; and Steve (Lonna) of Torrington; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren; one brother Henry (Larry) of Cheyenne; three sisters: Virginia Miller of Scottsbluff; Ruth Long (Barry) of Colorado; Susan Martinez of Maine; one aunt, Caroline Miller of Montana.

He was preceded in death by his son, Mark; daughter, Jerralee; brother, Kenny; and parents, Henry and Rosie Schmick
