LINGLE – A pair of victories by the Lingle-Fort Laramie (LFL) Doggers basketball team against both Hemingford and Hanna-Elk Mountain (HEM) maintained the boys’ undefeated record for the  2024-2025 season.

The Doggers kicked off the weekend with a resounding 60-26 win against Hemingford at an away game on January 9.

On Saturday, LFL defended the Dogger Dome against conference rival HEM, 68-20, snagging their 18th consecutive home win.

Leaving it all on the court on Saturday, LFL established a 48-3 halftime lead against the Miners, setting the running clock in motion at 1:40 in the second quarter.

Hemingford

The Doggers won the first quarter against Hemingford, 16-7. LFL netted 17 points in the second quarter while a solid Dogger defense held Hemingford to five for a  33-12 halftime lead.

An explosive third quarter saw the Doggers top Hemingford in scoring fivefold, 20-4. LFL wrapped up the game with 10 more points in the final quarter.

Junior Brady Cook set the momentum for the Dogger offense with 28 points. Cook shot 88 percent from inside the perimeter (14-16). The junior also went double-double, tallying 14 rebounds.

Senior Ned Nelson contributed eight points, fellow senior Brody Roberts six, junior Anthony Arnusch four and senior Cooper Smith four. Senior Elijah Hatch and sophomore Mason Unverzagt each tallied three points with two apiece by senior Kaiden Riggs and junior Jace Schlagel.

Roberts rounded out stats with 12 assists and four steals.

“We were maybe a little rusty in the first half,” coach Cook said. “However, in the third quarter, the guys put together a 20-0 run and put the game out of reach. The guys shared the ball very nicely as we had 22 team assists led by Brody Roberts with 12. The guys were focused on team rebounding and it showed – we outrebounded Hemingford, 32-11. Our guys continued their good shooting as we finished 58 percent as a team.”

HEM

Roaring on the court, the Doggers overwhelmed HEM, 27-3, in the opening eight minutes.

Roberts commenced scoring for the Doggers with an inside shot before going on to toss in two more jumpers, a reverse layup and a pair of free throws. Cook netted two close-range shots and converted an and-1.

Riggs contributed four points for the Doggers in the first quarter with a bucket apiece by Arnusch, Smith and senior Skyler Thomas.

Defensively, Cook, Thomas and Riggs each grabbed steals in the opening eight minutes of the game.

A tenacious Dogger defense shut out HEM in the second quarter while the LFL offense tossed in 21 points. Nelson led the Doggers in scoring in the second quarter with eight points, including an outside shot placing LFL ahead by more than 40 points, 45-3.

On defense, LFL maintained the pressure with steals by Cook, Nelson, Arnusch, Roberts and Smith.

Hatch drained a 3-pointer to top off the second quarter and the Doggers headed for halftime up, 48-3.

“The guys got off to a great start with ball pressure led by Anthony Arnusch,” coach Cook remarked. “Skyler Thomas had some nice assists for us. Brady Cook had another solid game and led us in scoring with 21 points and was 9-10 from the field. Roberts had another good game with 12 points and Ned Nelson was also in double figures with 10.”

Cook and Roberts are currently leading the state in all classifications for field goal percentages at 71 percent and 69 percent, respectively (WyoPreps stat report from January 6).

Riggs scored seven points, Hatch and Arnusch each six, Thomas four and Smith two.

Cook pulled down nine rebounds. Thomas shared the ball for five assists and Cook led in steals with five.
