WRIGHT – The Lingle-Fort Laramie (LFL) High School Doggers football team roared back into competition for week four with exceptional stats and fireworks by both its offense and defense at an away game against Wright on Friday, September 27.
An explosive first half by the Doggers established an overwhelming 49-0 lead for LFL at halftime. The LFL offense churned up an impressive 409 yards rushing in the first and second quarters alone while an ironclad Dogger defense repeatedly stopped the Panthers from advancing more than a few yards in each drive.
LFL’s second string entered the game in the fourth quarter to maintain the Doggers’ lead, 49-0, as the clock wound down.
“I was really pleased with the way our kids played Friday night,” coach Brandon Gifford said. “We stepped off the bus and were ready to play football. We ran the ball very well and our offensive line did a great job opening up lanes for our running backs. Our defense played extremely well and were never out of position. We rallied to the ball well and anytime you can shut a team out, it’s a great outing.”
LFL scored on its opening drive in the first quarter. Junior quarterback Brady Cook handed the ball off to senior Louden Bremer. Breaking tackle, Bremer sprinted through an opening and into the end zone for Dogger touchdown No. 1. A good kick by junior Anthony Arnusch placed LFL ahead, 7-0.
A touchback by Arnusch placed Wright at its own 20-yard line before the LFL defense shut out the Panthers.
Gaining possession, LFL scored again when Bremer charged into the end zone. Arnusch kicked the ball between the goalposts, widening the Doggers’ lead, 14-0.
Tackles for loss by a tenacious Dogger defense prevented the Panthers from going anywhere on Wright’s next two drives.
LFL found itself in possession again. In the first play, senior Kaiden Riggs took the handoff and rushed 89 yards up the gridiron and into the end zone for touchdown No. 3. Arnusch made good on another kick and LFL entered the second quarter ahead, 21-0.
LFL scored on its first drive in the second quarter. Bremer swept up the left side of the field and into the end zone. Arnusch kicked his fourth extra point and LFL remained up, 28-0.
A sack by senior Cooper Smith in the backfield stopped Wright’s subsequent drive.
The Dogger offense reached the end zone on each of its three remaining possessions of the second quarter with Riggs running in ball in for each touchdown. Arnusch kicked three more extra points to complete a perfect, 7-for-7 record for the night.
Defensively, the Doggers wreaked havoc on Wright’s attempts to gain positive yardage throughout four quarters. Smith led the D-line with nine tackles, including four for loss, along with one sack for loss and a fumble recovery in the third quarter.
Junior Colt Brown tallied 10 tackles with Bremer contributing nine. Riggs made seven stops and junior Colter McFarlin three. Coverage by Arnusch and Bremer broke up two passes. Freshmen Wyatt Curtsinger and DeAngelo Gann also made a tackle for loss in the fourth quarter.
The LFL offense totaled 435 yardrushing, primarily in the first half. Riggs set the momentum for the Doggers with 230 yards rushing on 10 carries. Bremer tallied 147 yards on 10 carries with Brown posting 58 yards on six carriers and Cook 24 yards on two carries.
Cook completed four of six passes for 18 yards with senior Ned Nelson, Brown and Arnsch on the receiving end. Arnusch totaled two touchbacks.
