Cyclones win consolation championship

CASPER – The Southeast Cyclones built a halftime lead but a strong third quarter by Wyoming Indian forced the Cyclones to step up in the fourth to win the consolation championship at the 2A State Tournament.

The Cyclones held a 14-11 lead after the first frame. Both teams' offenses exploded in the second quarter, with Southeast outscoring Wyoming Indian 18-17 to hold a 32-28 lead at the break. In the third, the Chiefs poured in 16 points, while Southeast was limited to nine, giving Wyoming Indian a 44-41 lead with eight minutes to go. The Cyclones stepped up their offense, racking up 19 points in the fourth to seal the 60-58 win.

Southeast took the consolation championship, its best finish at the state tournament since the 2009-10 season when the Cyclones finished second. Southeast finished the year with a 14-13 record.
