Cross-country begins season in Newcastle

NEWCASTLE – The Torrington Trailblazer cross-country team kicked off its season Friday at the Newcastle Invitational, with William Fluckiger snagging a top-three finish.
Fluckiger posted a time of 19:56.23 in the boys varsity, taking third behind Newcastle’s Dylan Talley and Austin Drury. Fluckiger’s teammate, Quentin Meyer, was not far behind, finishing fifth with a time of 20:05.01.
Pake Haun was the third-best runner for the Blazers, clocking a time of 21:37.59, earning 12th. Jacob Polkowske slid into 14th with a time of 21:41.41. Anthony Munoz (18th) and Jesse Lay (23rd) rounded out the boys team for Torrington on Friday, recording times of 22:02.19 and 23:44.29.
Jaiden Hopkins was the only Torrington girl to compete in Newcastle. She finished eighth with a time of 26:56.33.
The Blazers return to competitive action Friday at the Gering, Neb. Invitational, starting at 11 a.m.
