Artist to discuss CTEC scultpure
TORRINGTON – Eastern Wyoming College announces a public presentation by sculptor Gareth Curtiss in Torrington.
Curtiss has been contracted to do the art piece for the new Career and Technical Education Center.
This presentation will be held on Thursday, April 27, at 6:30 p.m. in Mechanical Arts Room 116. He will be talk about the processes of producing bronze sculptures and the business side of being a professional artist. Throughout the week he will be working with EWC art students. This presentation is free and open to the public.

Quilters show set
TORRINGTON – The Goshen County Quilters group will host a free quilt trunk show
this month.
The public is invited to the Friendship Senior Center, 216 East 19th Ave. in Torrington, at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 27. Maggie Ball, of Whidbey Island, Wash., will be featured presenter at the show.
Ball, an author, lecturer and award-winning quilter, will present some of her quilt designs at talk about teaching quilting in Mongolia.
The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served following the show.

Information fair set
GERING, Neb. – The Helping Hands Independent Living Center in Gering will host an Information Fair for people seeking information on available services in and around the Nebraska Panhandle.
The JAM, or Joint Agency Meeting, will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, April 27, at the Civic Center in Gering. The event will adopt an open house format so interested people can come and go as they please.
Helping Hands, formerly known as Panhandle Independent Living Services, is a United Way agency. Co-sponsors for the event include UnitedHealthcare and the Nebraskas Reuse Network.
The agency sponsors a directory with more than 100 listings of agencies and organizations providing a range of services, including programs offering assistance with education and support, mental and physical health, veterans services and more. More than 50 of the agencies and groups in the directory are expected to be at the JAM.

Square dance set
GERING, Neb. – The Oregon Trail Dance Club will host its regular dance on Friday, April 28, at the IOOF Hall
in Gering.
Plus dancing will kick off at 6:30 p.m. with the regular dance beginning at 7 p.m. with Lucky calling.

Business After Hours
TORRINGTON – The Goshen County Chamber of Commerce will host its regular Business After Hour from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 28, with an open house at Great Gardens garden center, 4706 U.S. Hwy. 26/85 in Torrington.

EWC Fun Run start changed
TORRINGTON – The GEAR UP club at Eastern Wyoming College has announced a minor change of venue for its planned 5K Color Run scheduled for Saturday April 29 in Torrington.

Instead of in front of the school, as originally advertised, registration and Zumba warm-up for the run will be held in the Verl Petsch Jr. Activities Center gymnasium on the EWC campus. The run will still take place, rain or shine, GEAR UP announced Tuesday.


Town Hall scheduled
TORRINGTON – The Goshen County Republican central committee will host a legislative town hall, set for 6 p.m. Monday, May 1 at the old gymnasium in the Lincoln Center Building in Torrington. Local legislators are scheduled to be in attendance. A prepared presentation, followed by a question-and-answer session, are scheduled. The public is invited to attend.

SE FFA to host annual oyster fry
YODER – The FFA Chapter at Southeast High School here will host its annual Oyster Fry and Member Sale next week at the school.
The event is scheduled for Tuesday, May 2, in the Southeast High School gymnasium, located at 1 Lacy Street in Yoder. Admission is $10 for adults and $7 for kids with 12 and younger free.
Chapter members will be serving Rocky Mountain oysters and ham beginning at 6:30 p.m. The auction is set to begin at 7 p.m.

National Day of Prayer observance
TORRINGTON – Christ Reformed Presbyterian Church will host the annual National Day of Prayer observance at 12 p.m. Thursday, May 4 on the grounds of the Goshen County Courthouse in Torrington.
The theme for this year’s National Day of Prayer is “For your great name’s sake.” The event will include prayers for the government, military, media, business, education, the church, youth and family. Scriptural theme for the event is from Daniel 9:19.
National Day of Prayer is traditionally held on the first Thursday in May. While organized days of prayer and fasting had occurred as early as 1775, law codified the modern National Day of Prayer in 1952.

Rummage sale set
TORRINGTON – The Senior Friendship Center in Torrington will host a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 6.
The sale will be at the center, 1833 East A St., in Torrington. Lunch will be available.

Vet Tech club holding final dog wash
TORRINGTON – The Eastern Wyoming College Veterinary Technology Club will be holding their final dog wash of the semester on Saturday, May 6. Appointments will begin at 8 a.m. and walk-ins will be taken until 10:30 a.m. The dog wash will conclude at 1:30 p.m. The student technicians will do minimal brushing and do not shave out mats. A current rabies certificate is required to participate.
Pricing per dog is as follows:
Bath: Small dog (0-20#) $8, medium dog (20.1-50#) $10, large dog (50.1 – 90#) $12, extra large dog (90.1 and above) $14.
Added charge for Long hair: (Require additional grooming and Drying Time)
Small - $3, Medium - $5, Large - $7, Extra Large - $9
Other Services: Nail trim: $5

Spring book sale set
TORRINGTON – Calling all bibliophiles. The Goshen County Library Foundation wants you.
The group will host its regular spring used book sale May 6 through May 20 at foundation building, 2017 East A Street, in Torrington. Regular sale hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.
Beginning May 15, all unsold books will be available at half price. The foundation will offer any remaining books in boxed-lot deals the final three days of the sale, May 18-20.

PEO Parade of Tables set
TORRINGTON – PEO will host its Parade of Table on Saturday, May 13, at the Rendezvous Center in Torrington.
Doors open at 10 a.m. and lunch will be served at noon. Cost is $18 per person.
The event will feature a style show by local Main Street Merchants, a 50/50 raffle and door prizes. Attendees are encouraged to wear a favorite hat, bonnet or derby to get into the spirit of the event.
Proceeds go to support scholarships for women.

Master Gardeners host tree sale
TORRINGTON – The Goshen County Master Gardener Club will host its 2017 tree sale on Saturday, May 13, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Goshen County Extension Office, Hwy. 26/85, just west of the Port of Entry.
Varieties include chokecherry, purple lilac, northern red oak, maidenhair tree (ginkgo), golden delicious apple, Italian plum, president plum, moorpark apricot, bur oak, silver linden and catalpa. All trees are zone four, except for some fruit varieties which are zone five varieties. Most trees are bare root, with some potted. All will need to be planted quickly. Variety descriptions and information on proper planting and care will also be available.
Pre-ordered trees will be ready for pickup at the Extension Office beginning on May 10 between 8 a.m. and noon and 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., or at the tree sale.

Driver safety course set May 13
GUERNSEY – AARP of Wyoming will host a safety course for drivers next month.
The Driver Safety course is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 13, at the Guernsey Senior Center, 100 S Wyoming Ave., in Guernsey. Cost for the class is $15 for AARP members. Individuals who are not members of AARP may take the course for a $20 charge.
