Cattlewomen prep for summer

GOSHEN COUNTY – The Goshen CattleWomen (GCW) finished up their spring meetings on Tuesday in the Brand Room at the fairgrounds with a full agenda as they take a break from regular meetings for the summer.

In addition to staying busy on the ranch, members have been engaging with their community and promoting the beef industry locally.

GCW will once again kickoff the Goshen County Fair by hosting “Beef ‘n Brews in the Barn” in conjunction with Farm Bureau. This event will take place July 26.

This event provides a fun and relaxing atmosphere with music and barn dance, beer, silent auction and of course free beef kabobs and corn. Last year the event was marred by bad weather, but plans are being made to have the event held entirely under the Frontier Shelter.

Members are also putting together beef and agriculture promotional material and trivia to be featured on local radio stations throughout the summer and are looking for businesses or ranches who want to donate to help fund the ads. A brand flag fundraiser is in the works also to help promote ranchers in Goshen County. The flags will fly on Main Street in both Torrington and Lingle and will prominently feature four brands each.

In addition to the flags, members are also working on a beef billboard which will be visible to the many tourists frequenting Wyoming in the summer months.

Updates were given on the “Adopt a Heifer” projects at Southeast, Valley Christian and Lingle-Ft. Laramie.

The Southeast class named their Heifer Miss Moo and her calf was aptly named Levi Jr. after Levi Kosmicki, the rancher who volunteered to take part in the project.

LFL named their heifer Muffin and her baby Blossom. Valley Christian named theirs Cindy and her calf is Cloud.

GCW would like to take the opportunity to once again thank the teachers and volunteers for helping make this project a success. The project is also gaining momentum as out-going President Malissa Hall received a call from Colton Young of the Northern Ag Network to chat about the program on air.

The meeting was topped off by election of new officers for 2025-26.
