TORRINGTON – The Torrington Police Department responded to an accident at the intersection of East E Street and Valley Road, on October 24, involving a pickup truck and a school bus at around 4:15 p. m. Torrington Chief of Police, Matt Johnson, shared the report of the accident.

After investigation, it was found by the Torrington Police Department, a silver Chevy truck had stopped at a stop sign facing south on East E as the driver was preparing to merge onto Valley Road. The school bus was stopped behind the truck.

The truck proceeded to the intersection and began to merge onto Valley Road. The truck stopped quickly to yield to an oncoming vehicle and when the truck stopped, it did not give the bus driver following enough time to brake, resulting in the bus rolling forward into the back of the truck.

According to Johnson, the front bumper of the bus hit the back bumper of the truck. The damage to both vehicles was minor.

“The school bus was transporting children. Thankfully, no injuries were reported for the children or vehicle operators,” Johnson reported. “The school bus operator was issued a warning for careless driving.”
