TORRINGTON – Memorial services for Virginia M. Miskimins, 86, will be 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, 2019, at the United Methodist Church in Torrington with Pastors David Dick and Jeffrey Wayland officiating. 

Virginia died peacefully at home in Torrington on Jan. 18, 2019, and cremation has taken place. The Colyer Funeral Home assisted the family with the cremation arrangements.

Virginia was born May 29, 1932, in Torrington, to Ervin T. (Ted) and Hazel Schaffner. She was raised in the Huntley and Hawk Springs area, graduating from Hawk Springs High School in 1950. On Dec. 10, 1950, she married Wilson (Bill) Miskimins. They were blessed with 68 years of marriage. Virginia spent her life as a nurturing Christian wife, mother and grandmother. She devoted many years as a teacher’s aide to young children in the public schools, as well as teaching Sunday School and VBS. She was well-known for her crafting skills, baking and love of her yard and gardens. She was a member of the Cherry Creek Homemakers Club and the Help Your Neighbor Club of Van Tassell.

Surviving Virginia are her husband Bill; children, Sally (Tim) Haid of Kinnear, W. Keith (Susan) Miskimins of Alcester, S.D., Susan (Lowell) Kautz of Torrington, and Virginia Dee (Bill) Nida of Torrington; her grandchildren Amy, Amber, Nicky, Sally, Stacy, Lucas, Katie, Jack, Angie, Kelly, Androcles, Michael, Becky, Cari, and Liam; 28 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; her sisters Myrtle Hamilton, Wyona Runyan, Judy Schaffner and brother Norman Schaffner, along with her aunt Louise, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Preceding her in death were her parents; infant daughter Phyllis Kaye; brother Ervin; and sisters Roberta and Neioma.
