Three locals vying for state title

CASPER – Torrington's Jacob Wamboldt (285) and Tristen Kingsley (138), along with Southeast's Hunter Woodruff (285) are all still in contention for a state title after the first day of the state tournament.

Torrington

Wamboldt and Kingsley headline the Torrington wrestlers at the end of the first day. Both are 3-0 in their weight classes and are in the state title match to be wrestled tomorrow evening.

At 120 pounds, Quentin Meyer also reached the semi-finals, where he lost, but he is still guaranteed to place.

Nycholas Melchor (106), Pake Haun (126), Jacob Polkowske (145), Casey Britton (152), Chase Dominguez (160), Josh Kingsley (170), Jakob Brott (182), Riley Grubbs (195) and Brandon Bennick (220) all finished the first day of the tournament 1-1 and are all still alive.

Southeast

Woodruff was one of three Cyclones to reach the semi-final round, but he was the only Southeast grappler to pick up a win, earning him a spot in the state title match tomorrow.

Greg Logsdon (106) and Brock Blevins (113) both suffered a loss in the semis, sending them to the consolation brackets, but they are guaranteed to place in their weight class.

Kaden Brothwell (106), Wyatt Lackman (120), Chase Lovercheck (152), Ethan Steinhausen (152), Brady Tosh (160), Conner Smith (170), Tate Carson (182) and Brian Baker (195) all posted a 1-1 record through the first two rounds of the tournament. With a win apiece, the entire squad is still alive for Saturday's action.

Lingle-Fort Laramie

at 138 pounds, Zane Rising was the top Dogger at the end of the first day. He reached the semi-finals, but lost in the round, sending him to the lower bracket. Despite the loss, Rising is guaranteed to place tomorrow.

Gaven Niles (126) and Jessy Valentine (220) both picked up a win today to earn them more wrestling tomorrow.

Wrestling resumes at 9 a.m. tomorrow (Saturday) with the wrestle back rounds and the consolation semi-finals. The third- and fifth-place matches are slated for 2:30 p.m., followed by the championship matches at 5:15 p.m.
