Community comes together for 3rd Thursday

Posted

TORRINGTON - It’s been a year since Goshen County’s inaugural 3rd Thursday street festival kicked off. Enthusiasm surrounding the community event appears to have made it through the winter, as a large crowd, vendors, businesses, organizations, and residents turned out for its official return Thursday, June 20 on Main Street.

Featuring live music, food, drinks, kids’ activities and more, the Goshen County Chamber of Commerce invited the public to enjoy “downtown late-night shopping in a fun family atmosphere.”

The celebrations will continue every month through September, with several Main Street businesses open from 5 to 7 p.m.

The theme for last week’s event was “Safety Night” and included a close look at vehicles used by first responders among the free cotton candy and popcorn, bounce obstacle course, face painting, and story time. Goshen County Weed and Pest also had information about mosquitoes; Life Choice Pregnancy Care Center offered free ultrasounds, pregnancy testing, and information; along with many other local health and wellness organizations, as well as local businesses, bringing awareness to and educating attendees about various issues.

Next month, 3rd Thursday is scheduled for July 18 with a “Vintage Night” theme; followed by “All-American Night” on Aug. 15; and “All About Agriculture and Made in Goshen Night” on Sept. 19.
