TORRINGTON – Private family graveside memorial services for Rodney E. Girmus, 80, were held at the Valley View Cemetery. Rodney died at his home on Jan. 9, 2020, and cremation has taken place. Memorials may be given to the University of Wyoming Scholarship Fund.
The Colyer Funeral Home assisted the family with the cremation arrangements.
Rodney was born July 30, 1939, in Exeter, Neb., the son of Edward and Mildred Girmus. He graduated from the Sutton, Neb., High School in 1956. He then attended the University of Wyoming where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and was magna cum laude. He then worked for General Electric Heavy Military Engineering in sonar engineering from 1960 to 2004, including three years on the staff of Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara and several years as a section manager for General Electric.
He retired in 2004 and moved to Torrington. After retirement Rod was active in local boards including the Goshen County Library Board, Goshen County Planning Commission and the West Highway Planning Board. Rod lived gardening and anything about John Deere tractors.
Rodney is survived by his wife Sylvia; four children; and nine grandchildren.
