L-FL wins four events in SEWAC

GLEROCK – The Lingle-Fort Laramie boys and girls track teams competed in the SEWAC Invitational on Saturday in Glenrock, bringing home four SEWAC championship titles.

Kaelyn Riley rose to the occasion Saturday, winning two SEWAC titles. She won the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.52 seconds, which she paired with the 200 title, posting a time of 27.20 seconds. She also took the track for the 400, finishing second with a time of 1:01.82.

Jenna Kaufman joined Riley in the 400, snagging sixth with a time of 1:08.28. Kaufman paced the Lady Doggers in the 800, snagging third with a time of 2:40.80. Cora Frederick (sixth) and Shelby Heilbrun (eighth) were not far behind, clocking times of 2:58.10 and 3:06.60. Frederick tried her hand in the upper distances as well, taking fifth in the mile (6:45.24) and sixth in the two-mile (16:00.80).

In the hurdling events, Kaylan Maez was the lone L-FL girl to compete. She snagged fifth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 51.70 seconds, along with a sixth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles, turning in a time of 18.77 seconds.

In the relays, Maez, Heilbrun and Kaufman were joined by Jordyn Gaspers for the 1600-meter sprint medley, just missing the top spot, finishing second with a time of 4:55.25. Katelyn Seyfang, Shelly Ann Sorrick, Emily Hatch and Kalli Nichol linked up for the 400-meter relay, clocking a time of 1:08.46, earning sixth.

L-FL had seven top-eight performances in the field events Saturday, led by a trio of fifth-place finishes. Riley secured fifth in the triple jump, clearing 31 feet, 6 inches. Gaspers was not far behind with a 28-foot, 7.5-inch effort for seventh. Gaspers snagged fifth in the long jump with a jump of 13 feet, 6.25 inches.

Savannah Mirich was the top thrower for the Lady Doggers. Her put of 32 feet, 5 inches earned her fifth in the shot put. In the discus event, Mirich took sixth with a throw of 91 feet, 3.5 inches.

Rounding out the top field performances, Heilbrun cleared 4 feet, 8 inches in the high jump to take sixth. Maez also snuck into the top-eight, snagging eighth in the pole vault with a 6-foot, 4-inch effort.

The Lady Doggers notched 58 points in the team standings, finishing sixth, just behind Glenrock’s 65 points. Pine Bluffs won the girls team title with 136 points. Burns’ 114 points and Lusk’s 93 points rounded out the top-three teams.

Boys

Landen Fuller rounded out the individual SEWAC champions, taking first in the 200 with a time of 23.30 seconds. He also snagged fourth in the 100 with a time of 12.27 seconds.

Fuller was also on a title-holding relay team. He was joined by Gaven Niles, Hayden Hill and Cole Shepardson for the 1600-meter sprint medley, taking the crown with a time of 3:44.25.

Cooper Hill took the place of Fuller in L-FL’s 400-meter relay team, where he, Shepardson, Niles and Hill finished third with a time of 47.36 seconds. In the 1600-meter relay, Kelly Peterson joined Shepardson, Niles and Fuller and the foursome finished fourth, clocking a time of 3:42.50.

Peterson continued his solid day in the individual events as well. He picked up the silver in both the 800 (2:10.80) and the 1600 (5:15.40).

Rhett Greenwald rounded out the top-eight individual placers on the track Saturday, finishing seventh in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 18.12 seconds. He also snagged fourth in the pole vault, clearing 10 feet, 7 inches.

Ty Mueller took to the track for the first time this spring, notching the best field event finish for the Doggers. He took second in the triple jump, clearing 40 feet, 2.5 inches. Cooper Hill took eighth in the event, clearing 35 feet, 10 inches. Mueller also cleared 19 feet, 3.25 inches in the long jump, taking seventh.

Cordell Forkner rounded out the placers on Saturday, finishing eighth in the discus with a throw of 113 feet, 8 inches.

The Doggers piled up 62 points on the day to finish sixth, not far behind Lusk’s 74 points (fourth) and Southeast’s 73 points (fifth). Pine Bluffs stood atop the boys standings with 130 points, ahead of Glenrock’s 112 points and Burns’ 101 points.

Wiseman Invitational

Select Doggers competed in the Wiseman Invitational on Friday in Torrington. Mueller was the only L-FL athlete to place, and he did so in two events. He snagged fourth in the long jump, clearing 20 feet, 0.5 inches. In the triple jump, his 39-foot, 2.5-inch effort earned him eighth.

The L-FL boys totaled six points to tie Glendo for eighth in the team standings. Cheyenne East won the boys team title with 156 points, followed by Laramie (147) and Cheyenne Central (123).

The Doggers return to action this weekend for the 1A East Regional Invitational in Torrington.
