LINGLE – Deanna Lee Greenwald, 79, of Lingle passed away Aug. 20, 2021, at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colorado, after a three-week battle with COVID-19.

Deanna was born July 17, 1942, in Burwell, Nebraska, the oldest daughter of Stanley "Pete" and Doris (Smith) Hesselgesser.

The family moved to Lingle in 1947 and later moved to Torrington, where Deanna graduated from Torrington High School in 1960.

She married David Greenwald on Sept. 2, 1961, in Lingle where they made their home and raised their three children.

Deanna truly loved her family. From wrestling matches to basketball games to everything in between, she loved attending her kids' and grandkids' school activities.

She'll always be remembered for her home-cooked meals and a spread that could feed an army as well as her love of crafting and quilting.

Deanna was also very involved in her community. She was a Scout mom and volunteered for several years with the Wyo-Braska District of the BSA and was active in everything from the Rawhide Extension Club to the Lingle-Ft. Laramie High School Booster Club.

Anyone that knew Deanna was aware of how much she loved history. She had a deep interest in genealogy and was the chairwoman of the Lingle History Committee, contributing heavily to Lingle's centennial celebration. She was considered by many as the unofficial town historian.

Deanna is survived by her husband David of Lingle.; her oldest son, Jeffery (Cindy) Greenwald of Laramie, and their four children, Hannah, Jacob, Isaac and Ian; her youngest son Gregory (Denise) Greenwald of Douglas, and their two sons, Nathaniel and Ryley; her daughter Joy Greenwald of Greeley, Colorado; and her sister, Janice Abbott of Torrington.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A public graveside service will be held on Monday, Aug. 30 at 11 a.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery in Lingle. Attendees who do not wish to stand are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Colyer Funeral Home and friends are invited to send condolences to the family at www.colyerfuneralhome.com.
