Republican Central Committee meeting

GOSHEN COUNTY – The Central Committee of the Goshen County Republican Party will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, May 21, in the Wyoming Room at Pinnacle Bank in Torrington.

Guests of the party will be candidates seeking political office to address the committee.

Learn to quilt at camp

TORRINGTON – Registration is open now for a Kid’s Learn to Quilt Camp, hosted by the Goshen County Quilters group.

The camp for youth aged 9 to 17 will run from June 18 – 21, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the community room at Platte Valley Bank on Main Street in Torrington. Cost will be $25, with all materials provided by the club.

Students will make a lap-size quilt during the class, in the colors of their choice. No sewing experience is necessary.

Registration forms are available at elementary school offices of by calling Terry Haines, (307) 532-5221. Registration deadline is Friday, May 25, and the class is limited to 15 students. A limited number of partial scholarships to cover registration costs are available.

Wounded Warriors Walk set

TORRINGTON – Come and walk in support of the Wounded Warriors Program with the second annual Memorial Day Ruck 5K run/walk on May 28 in Torrington.

The event kicks off at 8 a.m. on Memorial Day in the parking lot at Eastern Wyoming College on West C Street here. Registration fees are $25 for adults age 13 and older and $15 for youth 12 and younger. Participants will receive a free shirt if registered by May 21.

The event is stroller and dog friendly, with proceeds going to support the Wounded Warrior Program, 

Democratic Convention set

TORRINGTON – Goshen County Democrats will host their regular County Convention, set for May 19, in the Fine Arts Auditorium on the campus of Eastern Wyoming College here.

Registration is scheduled for 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., with a regular business meeting set to immediately follow. Residency in Goshen County is required to be a voting member of the convention. Voting delegates must also be a registered Democrat at least 15 days prior to the convention, by May 3.

The convention agenda includes election of State Convention delegates, adoption of the county platform and resolutions, election or appointment of precinct committee members and introduction of discussion of candidates for the 2018 election. The Wyoming State Democratic Convention is scheduled for June 9 at Central Wyoming College in Riverton.

“Important issues locally, statewide and nationally affect all,” party vice-chair Dorothy Schild wrote in a press release. “Democracy is being challenged and it is our obligation as citizens to protect and
preserve it.”

Goshen County Democrats invite all interested parties to attend the
convention.

Historical Society program

TORRINGTON – A special program is planned for the upcoming meeting of the Goshen County Historical Society.

Jon Nelson of Rapid City, S.D., will present ‘The Old Trader’s Road Between Ft. Laramie and Ft. Pierre.’ The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. May 22, in the Platte Valley Bank Community Room in Torrington.

‘Voices of Sunrise

LINGLE – The Western History Center will host a special showing of the video, ‘Current Voices of Sunrise,’ at the center starting at 7 p.m. on May 24. 

The Western History Center is located five miles west of Lingle on U.S. Hwy. 26. The showing will be free and the public is invited.

The center will also host a special Sunrise Mine tour, the afternoon of June 23. For more information on either program, contact George at (307) 575-2010.
