Singing Valentines offered YODER – The Cy-Tones from Southeast High School will be offering Singing Valentines in honor of the holiday again this year.
Spouses, best friends, work colleagues of secret, special someone can receive a live, singing salute on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14. Vocal students will be out and about most of the day, presenting the well wishes around Yoder, Torrington and Lingle.
Singers will be in Yoder from 8 to 9 a.m. and in Torrington and Lingle from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Individuals wishing to send a musical Valentine may select from six pieces of music.
Cost for the Valentines is $15, cash or check, with checks payable to Southeast Music. Requests may be delivered to the school or any Cy-Tone member or faxed to (307) 532-5771.
Sugar Valley Singers Valentines TORRINGTON – The Sugar Valley Singers men’s barbershop group is offering Singing Valentines to the community again this year.
Valentines will be delivered between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. on the special day, Feb. 14. Cost is $35 and includes a rose and chocolates. Singing Valentines may be delivered to either the workplace or to the home.

Commissioners scholarships available TORRINGTON – Applications for County Commissioner’s scholarships are available in the County Clerk’s office or online at goshencounty.org. Three initial scholarships may be awarded.
The scholarships are for $500 per semester for one year. They are in addition to the Hathaway Merit Scholarships. Also, the students who received an award last year may apply for the single renewal scholarship. Only one renewal scholarship is awarded.
Applications must be received prior to May 1.
Zippy Toad comes to THS auditorium TORRINGTON – Fifth-graders from Trail Elementary will present their annual musical, Zippy Toad’s Zany Adventures, here in February.
Curtain times for the production are 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 15, at the Torrington High School auditorium.
Gearing up for the production, each class wrote the speaking parts for its own, unique, Zippy Toad adventure. The students also learned five different musical selections to be played on the Recorder.
Painted barn quilt block class. TORRINGTON – Goshen County Quilters will offer a class to paint a “barn quilt” block on Saturday, Feb. 17, starting at 8:30 a.m.
Each participant will be able to complete a 2 foot x 2 foot painted quilted block in 4-5 hours. Cost for the workshop is $60. A 2 x 2 foot, white-primed board, a wide choice of colored paints, clear sealer and painters tape will be supplied. Participants should plan to bring a favorite quilt block pattern, drawn to any scale, lead pencil, disposable 1-inch foam brush, a ruler 24-36 inches long, a drop cloth or newspapers to cover the painting area, and a jar or can for water.
The finished block will be suitable for outdoor display on barn, house or in the yard or can be hung indoors. Class size is limited to 25. Call (307) 640-4002 to reserve a space no later than Thursday, Feb. 15.
Pratt-Ferris Ranch presentation TORRINGTON – The history and impact on the local agriculture community of the Pratt-Ferris Ranch will be the topic of a presentation at the next meeting of the Goshen County Historical Society.
The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, in the community room of the Platte Valley Bank branch on North Main Street in Torrington. Special guest will be Donna Cay Heinz, who will talk about the historic ranch, which was located in eastern Wyoming.
The Pratt-Ferris Ranch was owned and operated in Goshen County by the Pratt and Ferris Cattle Company. Founded in 1879, the company also operated the U Cross Ranch on Clear Creek in Johnson County, as well as the Upper PF Ranch, originally located on Rawhide Creek, also in Goshen County.
The original partners were James Harvey Pratt, Marshall Field, Levi Leiter, Robert M. Fair, and Cornelius Ferris, with Pratt as the general manager of ranching operations.
The presentation is free and the public is invited to attend.
Play It Again, Sam hits WNCC stage SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. – The Western Nebraska Community College Theatre Arts Dept. will present the Woody Allen play, Play It Again, Sam, in March.
Dinner theater performances are set for 7:30 p.m. March 2 – 3, with a scheduled 2 p.m. matinee March 4. A show-only performance is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. March 4. All productions will be in the New Theater in the John N. Harms Center on campus in Scottsbluff.
Tickets for the dinner theatre productions are $25 and must be purchased in advance through the WNCC Foundation Office at wnccfoundation.org or (308) 635-6550. Tickets for the show only performance on March 4 at 7:30 p.m. are $5 and can be purchased at the door one hour prior to curtain.
The production follows a recently divorced film magazine writer, Allan Felix, who is trying to restart his romantic life. He falls in love with Linda, the wife of his best friend Dick. Throughout the show, he seeks advice from the ghost of his idol Humphrey Bogart, but soon he realizes he needs to just be himself instead of imitating Bogart.
Cast members include James Maag as Allan Felix, Dani Lopez as Linda Christie, Troy Jacobucci as Dick Christie, James Buxbaum as Humphrey Bogart and Pasiensia Marex as Allan’s girl.
“Play It Again, Sam has been a delight to stage,” said Robert Thompson Jr., WNCC theatre instructor and director “With this play, it is my hope to lead our young men to the conclusion that we don’t need to try to be something we are not.”
