CHEYENNE – The Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution (WMCI), located in Torrington, hosted Eric Genius and held a Concert for Hope on April 11, 2024.

Born in Toronto, Canada in 1966, Genius is an acclaimed composer, virtuoso pianist, and inspirational speaker. Annually, he performs hundreds of live concerts a year in the U.S. and internationally. Mr. Genius also performs Concerts for Hope. His mission is to perform uplifting, original content for those who have lost hope, typically people who are imprisoned, addicted, homeless and who are generally committed to institutions including death row.

Genius’s Concerts for Hope are made possible through charitable donations. Some of the venues he has performed include prisons, rehab centers, terminally ill facilities, safe houses for the abused, special education centers, schools, hospitals, homeless centers, and nursing homes/memory care facilities.

WMCI was able to hold two concerts, one for the women and one for the men. The concerts featured Genius on the piano, and three soloists to include the cello, violin, and a vocalist.

Warden Seth Norris commented, “I believe the concert had a positive effect on the inmates and staff. Mr. Genius and his musicians were world class. They were professional and appreciated by all who attended.”
