Youngsters tee off at Torrington junior golf program

TORRINGTON – Thirty-five future golfers ages five to 15 from across Goshen County gathered on the shooting range at Cottonwood Country Club in Torrington on Thursday, June 13, for instruction by PGA professional and course manager David Dent.

The lessons on driving techniques were part of the week-long Torrington Junior Golf program taught by Dent and Denton Shaw and Daniel Yonkee. This summer marked the 16th year Dent has organized the event for youngsters.

The up-and-coming golfers learn skills that range from basic chipping and putting to a full swing with irons and drivers, said Dent. They also learn golf etiquette behavior as well as teamwork.
