LARAMIE – The Torrington ‘C’ Legion team returned to Laramie on Monday and dropped both games of a doubleheader against the Rangers.
In game one, the Tigers didn’t waste any time getting the bats going.
Rhett Clark and Garrett Hager singled to begin the game, and James Stienmetz moved them into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Harrison Rodriguez singled, driving in the first two runs of the game.
Laramie answered with two of its own in the bottom of the first, but the Tigers regained the lead in the top of the second.
Skylen Teague walked, and Clark collected his second hit of the game to put a pair of runners in scoring position with one out. Hager was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Stienmetz’s single gave the Tigers a 4-2 lead.
Laramie took the lead for good in the home half of the second with six runs.
Trailing 8-4, Torrington started chipping away at the deficit in the fifth.
Colby Sandusky led off the inning with a single and came around to score on an RBI ground out by Skyler Patrick.
Laramie added its final run in the bottom of the sixth, but Torrington threatened again in the top of the seventh.
Sandusky led off the frame with a single, but Laramie got two quick outs courtesy of strikeouts. Teague walk and Boggess walked, loading the bases. Clark doubled, cutting the Laramie lead to 9-7. Hager was intentionally walked, but a fielder’s choice ended the Tiger comeback hopes.
Clark, Stienmetz and Sandusky led the Tiger offense with three hits each. Clark and Stienmetz drove in two runs apiece.
In game two, Laramie shutout the Tigers 16-0.
The home team scored six runs in the first, seven in the second, one in the third and two in the fourth.
Meanwhile, Torrington mustered only one hit and five base runners for the game. The lone hit came in the top of the fourth courtesy of Sandusky.
The Tigers (6-14) are back in action on Saturday for a doubleheader in Wheatland. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. They wrap up the regular season on Monday, July 10 at Cheyenne. Action is scheduled for 5 p.m.
