TORRINGTON – The Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution (WMCI), located in Torrington conducted a facility wide shakedown on September 23, 2024 and completed the shakedown on September 26, 2024. All areas of WMCI were searched and only nuisance contraband was found.
Shakedowns are common practice in correctional facilities. A shakedown is when correctional staff conduct a thorough search of an inmate’s person and/or cell. Searches are conducted for security and accountability reasons. The primary goal is to locate any contraband (including illicit substances and/or weapons) and to uncover potential security threats.
All WDOC facilities conduct facility wide searches throughout the year. However, cell searches and area inspections are completed at random and more frequently.
In addition to the teams completing the searches, WMCI staff assisted with meal preparation, canteen delivery, laundry services, and janitorial services. WMCI takes pride in its staff and thanks them for their hard work during this shakedown.
WMCI returned to normal operations upon completion of the shakedown.
