Wyoming Game and Fish Department urges hunters to complete harvest surveys

CHEYENNE – The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is asking hunters to submit harvest surveys to help wildlife managers make informed decisions about future hunting seasons.

Nearly 70,000 antelope, deer and elk hunters will receive questionnaires beginning Oct. 16, with additional surveys distributed throughout the season as more licenses are sold, according to a news release from the department.

“A harvest survey questionnaire sent to license holders is the best way for wildlife managers to understand how many animals are harvested each year and how satisfied hunters are with their hunting opportunities,” said Jason Carlisle, a quantitative biologist with Game and Fish.

The surveys collect information about animal harvests and hunter satisfaction during the 2025 hunting season. Wildlife managers use the responses to monitor populations and set future quotas, season dates and other regulations.

Hunters will receive survey invitations and reminders primarily through email. A random sample of antelope, deer and elk license holders will be surveyed due to the large volume of hunters. For species with fewer licenses issued, such as moose or wild turkey, the department attempts to contact all license holders.

Carlisle emphasized hunters should complete surveys even if they did not hunt or harvest an animal.

Some hunters may receive surveys before their hunting season ends. The department asks hunters to wait until they finish hunting or their season concludes before responding. Online submission is preferred, though hunters can also report information by phone.

Hunters who complete antelope, deer or elk harvest surveys by Jan. 31 will be entered into a drawing for gift cards or prizes donated by outdoor retailers and organizations.

The Wyoming Survey & Analysis Center at the University of Wyoming is conducting the surveys on behalf of Game and Fish. All responses are confidential, according to the release.
