LARAMIE – The Wyoming Community Foundation (WYCF) recently awarded over $1 million to causes across Wyoming. These grants were made as part of WYCF’s competitive grant cycle, which distributes funding to nonprofit organizations around the state for important projects and general operating. Overall, WYCF board and committees awarded 115 grants that support different programs from health and human services to the arts, culture, and humanities.
Grantees who were awarded funds by the statewide board include:
Fairview Box H Park received funds to complete a new playground in Northern Lincoln County. This area has experienced significant growth in young families moving to the area. North Lincoln County currently has no formal indoor recreation facilities, no swimming pools, and relatively few opportunities for children to participate in recreation and organized sports outside of school. This leaves the burden on local community leaders to support the needs of families through other means - preferably at no cost to the families themselves, and to be inclusive of all. The completion of the park would provide a safe gathering place for children and families, and having nice community amenities contributes to the pride of the community.
Wyoming Women’s Business Center received funding to address the mental health disparities for women in Wyoming. This pilot project is uniquely designed to expand their business counseling to include mental health counseling through a licensed professional. Clients who lack access to mental healthcare can develop issues that are debilitating- especially if they are trying to start or grow a new business to support their family and positively impact their communities. This program will help destigmatize and normalize mental health care. The program will further educate and advocate for Wyomingites on the importance of mental wellness.
