CASPER – The Torrington High School indoor track team rounded out the regular season with hardware, new PRs and school records at the Natrona County Quad on Saturday, March 1.

Senior Evan Hellus shattered the Torrington High School record in the boys’ triple jump. Hellus advanced to fourth place on the leaderboard with a record-breaking mark of 41 feet, 8 ½ inches. Joe Jackson set the old record of 40-08 in 2013.

Hellus went on to capture gold in the long jump, clearing 20-11 and beating the runner-up from Natrona County by nearly nine inches.

In girls’ long distance events, senior Callie Taylor clinched first place in the 1600-meters, clocking in at 6 minutes, 23.87 seconds. Taylor crossed the finish line 1.64 seconds ahead of the second place finisher from Kelly Walsh.

Junior Trishell Pontarolo snagged gold in the girls’ triple jump, reaching a mark of 34-05 1/4. Sophomore Bailey Mehling took second place in the event with a mark of 31-02 ¼.

Sophomore Addisyn Wilkins rounded out gold medals with a first-place finish in the girls’ 400-meters at 1:06.31. Wilkins beat the runner up from Natrona County by 0.55 seconds.

Taylor, freshman Illyana Ponce, sophomore Esperanza Chavez and junior Anna Frederick took gold in the 4x800-relay at 12:19.06.

“I was proud of the team on Saturday at Natrona County,” coach Russell Stienmetz said. “They all competed well as we prepare for state this week.”

The 3A state indoor track championships take place in Gillette on March 6-7.

Junior Brooklyn Asmus clinched second place in the girls’ 55-meter dash finals, timing in at 7.31 seconds.

Pontarolo progressed to third place on the girls’ long jump leaderboard with a mark of 16-03 ½. The junior also took fourth place in the high jump at 4-08.

Senior Angie Logsdon bagged fourth place in the girls’ triple jump, reaching a mark of 30-07. Logsdon also came in eighth place in the long jump at 13-09 ½.

Wilkins finished seventh in the girls’ triple jump at 28-11 ¼, before garnering eighth place in the 55-meter hurdles at 10.18 seconds.

Mehling crossed the finish line for the girls’ 200-meters in fourth place with a time of 27.90 seconds.

In the girls’ 1600-meters, junior Anna Frederick secured fifth place, clocking in at 6:53.03.

Senior Taylar Hansen and Chavez tied for sixth place in the girls’ pole vault with both athletes clearing 7-00. Frederick placed eighth in the event at 6-06.

Chavez placed seventh in the girls’ 800-meters at 2:43.25.

Hansen scooped up seventh place in the 55-meter hurdles at 10.00 seconds.

Senior Wittni Bugher led the Torrington High School pack in the girls’ shot put, clearing 26-04 ½.

Junior Natalie Hawes clinched 10th place in the 55-meter dash at 8.02 seconds.

Sophomore Travis Nobs took eighth place in the boys’ 400-meters at 1:02.21.

Relay highlights included a second-place finish for Hawes, Pontarolo, Mehling and Asmus in the 4x200-meters with a time of 1:53.40.
