TORRINGTON – The Torrington Police Department will be hosting the annual “Cops and Cones” event at the Dale Jones Municipal Pool in Torrington on Thursday, August 8 at 3 p.m.
“This is a really fun event where we utilize DARE funding to sponsor the Bee Chilled Ice Cream Truck to show up at the pool and give kids free ice cream,” Torrington Police Chief, Matt Johnson said. “Of course, we show up and give out high fives and stickers. We want as many kids as possible to attend.”
According to Johnson, the department had seen other communities hosting similar events so Torrington’s department joined suit.
“To be honest, I don’t remember where it came from. I have seen other communities do something similar and we just came up with a name that fit for our community. It’s a fun time,” Johnson explained.
Unfortunately, ice cream are limited, according to the chief, as there isn’t an endless supply of ice cream.
